Our poultry always have access to pasture with a constant supply of forage, sunlight, and insects. They are supplemented with an organic GMO-free diet, and NEVER have any hormones, antibiotics, or chemical inputs in any way.
Pasture raised poultry is better for everyone!
The Land: Pasture raised poultry is more sustainable, and plays a huge part in the regenerative practices at the ranch! The chickens provide natural insect control, and add valuable fertilizer to our fields!
The Animals: Have a natural diet and lifestyle- no cages, no hormones or antibiotics, no chemical additives, EVER!
Your Health: Pasture raised poultry is a more nutritious protein source with more omega-3's, less saturated fats, and a higher amino acid and vitamin/mineral content.
Meet the Birds!
We firmly believe in allowing our chickens to live natural lives- and that all starts with getting heritage chickens who grow at slower, more natural rates. These chickens live in portable coops that rotate through our pastures, and are protected from predators by electric fencing.
We raise chickens derived from a cross between American and European Heritage breeds. Because they grow at a slower rate, the result is a delicious meat higher in omega-3’s, and lower in saturated fats than the faster-growing breeds.
Meet The People!
A go-getter firefighter (and dad joke enthusiast), and a small town horse girl with an Ag degree both made cheesy online dating profiles, and the rest is history…
But really, it was that simple. John and I have just always “fit”. We have never had a problem jumping in head first and joining forces to create wonderful adventures. Nothing is too daunting or out of reach when you have a partner in crime!
In our years together, we’ve explored (read: gotten lost) all over Arizona. We’ve travelled the west, worked cattle together, and taken our horses adventuring as often as possible. We’ve gone back to school for certifications, eloped at a beautiful ranch in Wyoming, and settled in Skull Valley, AZ.. John still works for a local fire department and I manage the pastures, cows, and horses at Iron Springs Ranch— all while continuing to build an incredible life together.
We have always loved our livestock and being as self-sufficient as possible. Our dream was to live off the land and develop a sustainable lifestyle and It helps that John is incredibly savvy when it comes to researching, planning, designing, building, and bringing to fruition anything we think up! John went from raising our own chickens to raising hundreds at a time to help supply the community with nutrient dense, pasture raised meat. It’s a good thing that we’ve never been afraid of work!
The owners at Iron Springs Ranch, Claire and Troy Eckard, have been instrumental to showing us the ways of navigating a small business, laughing with us through all our phases, supporting us in our endeavor, and graciously allowing us to implement our own regenerative ranching business alongside their cattle operation.
Together we’re making better soil, better grass, better meat, for a better you! Thank you for joining us on this journey. We can’t wait to see where it takes us!
